What Lights You Up

Nov 11, 2021

“We can be stronger in the broken places, but I would have preferred to have not been broken at all.”

Author Laura Davis is my guest this week to discuss her newly released book and first memoir, “The Burning Light of Two Stars: A Mother-Daughter Story.” The depths of realness and rawness expressed in her writing is something to behold, and also explains why it took ten years for her to complete.

Though many of us have contentious relationships with our mothers, Laura’s story is on another plane. Not only was she faced with her own trauma and the betrayal of her mother’s denial, judgment, and perceived rejection over many years, but she also found herself as the primary caregiver for her mother’s end of life, witnessing her spiral into dementia.

In this conversation, we are going to speak openly and honestly about Laura’s experience, elements she has shared in her book, and the pieces and parts of humanity that are often hidden from view. Her story is deeply moving and necessary to bring to light.
